Your Finger is Going to Fall Off

by PlaceForDads on October 14, 2008

For months now we have been trying to get our 2-year-old to stop sucking her finger.  When she’s tired or in bed she’s usually sucking on her index finger.  We’ve tried everything to get her to stop.  We’ve put “icky stuff” on her finger, promised her suckers and toys if she stops, and put her in “time out” if we catch her doing it.  Nothing has worked.

Our dentist says if Isabella continues to suck her finger she’ll start having problems with her teeth.  To get her to stop we have resorted to lying to her.  We have been telling her if she keeps sucking on her finger, her finger will fall off.  Something tells me even this might not worked.  When I first told her this she pulled her finger out of her mouth only long enough to laugh.

Stuck on Kids Stuff

October 13, 2008

Last month I bought a Sirius Satellite Radio for my car. Every morning Katelyn and I listen to Channel 116, Kid’s Stuff on the way to her school. As you might have guessed Kid’s Stuff plays music for children. I expected to hear lots of nursery rhymes instead I was surprised to recognize a lot [...]

Happy Homecomings

October 8, 2008

There’s nothing I look forward to more than coming home at night and having my girls greet me. I wait all day to hear their screams and to have them hug me. I have a demanding job that requires long hours during the week.  My girls remind me of this often. When Katelyn was old [...]

Sparkle Sparkle Sparkle Sparkle Sparkle

October 1, 2008

A day after setting up my daughters’ fish tank we added 5 fish (3 neon tetras, 1 guppy and 1 platy) and a couple of live plants.  The fish, plants and girls seem happy. Katelyn named all five fish “Sparkle,” which will make replacing them easier should any fish end up belly up. I have [...]

Parent Teacher Time

September 30, 2008

One month into kindergarten and last week it was time for the first of many parent teacher conferences for my wife and me. With Katelyn only in kindergarten I didn’t think we’d hear anything too shocking. Therefore I assumed my participation would be optional. My wife thought otherwise. We entered the classroom and the teacher [...]

Something Fishy

September 28, 2008

My daughters have been saving money for the past couple of weeks for a fish tank. They got the idea after Katelyn’s kindergarten class got a fish. The fish is a Beta that they named “Blue Fish.” We bought a tank on Friday and had to set it up a day before adding fish. The [...]
